Good News - Bad News January 15, 2008

Recently, with every piece of good news, there’s sure to follow a problem or complication. This week has been no different. Yesterday we received word that the biopsy performed on January 4th was negative, today we find out that Jan’s platelet count is too low to administer the consolidation chemotherapy, so we’re out of the hospital and back home. Now we wait (there’s that word again) until our doctor’s appointment next Wednesday. There’ll be more labs (of course), and a determination at that time on what to do next. It’s possible/probable that another bone marrow biopsy will be ordered at the time. Hopefully, the platelet count will go to new heights as inexplicably as it sunk to new lows these past two weeks. And so we temper the good news with more questions, and of course……more waiting.

I have some really cool avocado green plastic plate-lettes from the 1970's, but most folks call them saucers. Anyway, I'm willing to donate them if they will help, although I would hate to lose such cool "in" things as they are. Hopefully, Jan's platelet count will improve on its own, and I won't have to depart with these prize possessions.
